Trophy Success for Spen Valley Air Cadets
| News - Members' News |
Heckmondwike RAFA club played host to a very special occasion on Friday 29th January, when the Air Cadets of 2490 (Spen Valley) Squadron celebrated a presentation evening.

This event, which had been resurrected after an absence of many years, involved the cadets of the squadron being presented with various awards and certificates they had achieved in recent months. Parents were very proud as they watched their sons and daughters be awarded with items like Gliding Certificates, First Aid qualifications and Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Awards and badges. Finally, six cadets were presented with trophies for their individual performance in 2009.

The cadets who won a trophy were Daniel Ward (Best Uniform), Megan Dutch (Best Cadet), Daniel Harrison (Best Newcomer), Faye Harrison (Best Participator), Ashley Crooks (Best Attendance) and Corporal Ben Thomas (Best Sportsperson)
They were presented with their awards from a very special guest, Squadron Leader Andy Blaikie, who used to be the Commanding Officer of Spen Valley Squadron from 1979 until 1987 when he was promoted to Wing Staff.
It was also a special night for local Hunsworth man, Civilian Instructor Richard Collings, who received his official Certificate of Appointment into the Air Training Corps.

All the staff of the squadron have been delighted with the progress of the cadets within the last year, and all in all, a pleasant celebratory evening was had by everyone. The squadron would like to thank the staff of Heckmondwike RAFA club for their assistance and Asda for their generosity in providing refreshments.
