Members of Coventry Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) present the Nuneaton based Air Cadets with the Wings Appeal Trophy in recognition of their work within the community in support of former members of the RAF.

Mr Paul Adams, the Coventry Branch Royal Air Forces Association Wings Appeal organiser opened the proceedings by announcing the fact that the cadets from 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron had won the prestigious Coventry Branch, Wings Appeal Trophy for the third year in succession.

The Wings Appeal Trophy is awarded to the Coventry area Air Cadet unit that raises the most money during the ‘Battle of Britain Wings Appeal’ street collections, which took place on 26th September last year. Mr Adams commended the cadets for their efforts in raising the outstanding sum of £750 for the Royal Air Forces Association welfare fund.

Mr Adams also expressed the thanks of the Royal Air Forces Association to everyone who so generously contributed to the street collections.

Mr David Palmer Royal Air Forces Association Coventry Club Chairman presented the Coventry Branch, Royal Air Forces Association Wings Appeal Trophy to Cadet Gemma Porter who received the award on behalf of the cadets of 121 Squadron.

Flight Lieutenant Ian Crewe Officer Commanding 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron said, “We are delighted to have retained the Wings Appeal Trophy for the third year. The Royal Air Forces Association provides help and support for former members of the RAF and their families. With approximately 80,000 members and 500 branches in the UK the RAFA needs all the help it can get and our cadets were delighted to be able to do their bit”.

He added, “2010 marks the 70th Anniversary of the ‘Battle of Britain’ and to celebrate this occasion the Nuneaton Air Cadets and local RAFA members are already planning to make this Septembers Wings Appeal collection in Nuneaton an event to remember”.
