Cadet Sgt Alexander Mutton from 2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Squadron has received a boost towards his career plans by being awarded a very highly sort after Sixth Form Scholarships with the Royal Air Force.
The Scholarship is open to students who are currently in year 12 at school and studying A Levels. The aim of the Scholarships is to attract students into careers as RAF Officers.
Alex, who attends King Henry VIII School in Coventry was successful in being short-listed after 3 interviews and to secure his scholarship the ACFO - Armed Forces Careers Office sent a letter of recommendation to the selection committee based at Royal Air Force College Cranwell in Lincolnshire.
Alex has been granted a single payment of £1000 to help him through sixth form. He will also get the opportunity to attend an adventure training course, and have a go at the aptitude tests required to become a pilot in the RAF. Both of these activities will take place at RAFC Cranwell.
Alex who joined 2438 Squadron in 2006 plans to continue with his A’ levels then either apply for university or joining the RAF as a pilot via direct entry.
2438 Squadron commanding Officer Flight Lieutenant Nathan Adams said “The RAF Sixth Form Scholarships are highly prestigious awards, which are keenly fought over. The award demonstrates the RAF's belief that Alex has what they are looking for in terms of becoming an Officer and they wish to retain his interest through his sixth form studies. The skills that he has learnt whilst being a member of 2438 Squadron will have undoubtedly contributed to his success in achieving this award.”
