The Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire, Martin Dunne presents Cadet Flight Sergeant Robert Allan with his certificate of appointment and badge

Cadet Flight Sergeant Robert Allan of 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron Air Training Corps has been formally appointed as Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for Warwickshire.

During the presentation ceremony held at the Judge's House in Warwick Her Majesty's Lord Lieutenant of the County of Warwickshire Martin Dunne, formally appointed Flight Sergeant Robert Allan and two other of Warwickshire's finest cadets, Petty Officer Elizabeth McCarthy of the Coventry Sea Cadet Corps and Staff Sergeant Sophie Milliner of the Nuneaton Army Cadet Force, to act as Lord Lieutenant's cadets during the 150th Anniversary year of the Cadet Forces.

The Lord Lieutenant Martin Dunne expressed his admiration for the outstanding achievements of his newly appointed cadet representatives. He said, “Robert, Elizabeth and Sophie have all set an excellent example to other young people and I am delighted to be able to recognise their outstanding service within the cadet forces by making these appointments today. They are a credit to themselves, their units and now their County”.

As Lord Lieutenant's Cadets, their duties will include accompanying the Lord Lieutenant Martin Dunne at special civic and military engagements throughout Warwickshire.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Robert Allan joined the 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron Air Training Corps at the age of 13 and has steadfastly worked his way through the ranks to Flight Sergeant. He is now the senior Drummer in the Squadron Band and is the Staff Cadet in charge of sports on the Squadron. He has always been at the forefront of his Squadrons community service activities with the Royal British Legion, the Royal Air Force Association and other charitable organisations.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Robert Allan received the St John Ambulance ‘2009 Young First Aider of the Year' Award in recognition of his effective and prompt life saving first aid actions when he came to the assistance of a member of the public.

As well as being appointed Lord Lieutenant's cadet during the 150th Anniversary year of the Cadet Forces, Cadet Flight Sergeant Robert Allan has also been specially selected to attend the Cadet 150 tri-service Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award Residential Course to be held at the Royal Naval College Dartmouth later this year.

Officer Commanding 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron, Flight Lieutenant Ian Crewe said, ““This is the first time for many years that Warwickshire has had Lord Lieutenant's Cadets and it is of special significance that The Lord Lieutenant Martin Dunne has chosen to do so during the 150 th Anniversary of the Cadet Forces. We are delighted that Robert has been selected as Lord Lieutenant's cadet, in fact with Flight Sergeant Robert Allan and Staff Sergeant Sophie Milliner of the Nuneaton Army Cadets both being selected, Nuneaton as a whole should be justly proud of the achievements of these two outstanding young people”.
