Members of 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron Band have helped to revive the age-old town centre tradition of Charter Day and heralded the crowning of their new Carnival Queen.

For the first time in more than 100 years the people of Nuneaton have exercised their right under a Charter given back in 1183 by King Henry II to host a May Fair in the town centre Market Place between May 14 th and 16 th and the Fanfare section of the Air Cadet band were on hand to herald the arrival of a new Queen for Nuneaton.

The Nuneaton Charter Day celebrations included medieval music, Morris Men and a re-enactment of the battle between St George and the dragon. But the centre piece of the Charter Day celebrations was to be something completely new. For the first time in 80 years the incoming Carnival Queen was to be publicly crowned in the Market Place.

The Fanfare section of the 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron band and St George, escorted the Carnival Queen and Mayoral procession The Fanfare section of the 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron band, Cadet Flight Sergeant Robert Allan, Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for Warwickshire and St George , escorted the Carnival Queen and Mayoral procession which included the towns new MP Marcus Jones, from the Council House to the Market Place. On arrival the Cadets sounded a fanfare greeting the arrival of not only the new Queen but also the New Mayor and Mayoress who only took office on May 12th.

The Cadets sounded a second fanfare as Don Navarro the new Mayor of Nuneaton & Bedworth crowned Siobhan Hall as Nuneaton’s new Carnival Queen.

The Mayor, Don Navarro thanked the Air Cadets for helping to make the Charter Day celebrations and the crowning ceremony such a success. He also publicly announced the appointment of Cadet Flight Sergeant Robert Allan as Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for Warwickshire and thanked him for representing not only the Air Cadets but also all the young people of Nuneaton and Warwickshire. Robert received a well earned round of applause from the large Market Place crowd, which had gathered to witness the crowning of the new Carnival Queen.
