Scorching effort from 2438 Squadron cadets
| News - Members' News |
Cadets and staff from 2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Squadron Air Training Corps braved the 27 degree heat be back at their pointing stations to help Coventry City Council with the Coventry half marathon. Sizzling in the sunshine the cadets took to their posts during one of the city’s most important events on the calendar.

The city's half marathon race organiser Paul Claridge said "It’s fantastic to see these young people helping at such an important event for the city of Coventry. We can't do it without hundreds of volunteers who give their time for free.
The cadets thoroughly enjoyed the race especially watching the likes of superman, bananas and a squirrel run past them. Supporters lined the route to cheer on the runners and so did the cadets. They clapped and cheered, giving encouragement as well as pointing them in the right direction. The support was much needed especially as the runners had over 4 miles left to run, in the heat.
2438 Squadrons Flight Sergeant Alan Tillman said “This is the second year the cadets from 2438 squadron have helped out with the event and the cadets thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This was a great opportunity for the cadets to raise the profile of the squadron by supporting the council with this fantastic event.”
The cadets from 2438 Squadron will be continuing their community volunteering by helping Kenilworth Rotary Club with the 2 Castles Run on Sunday 6 June. Incorporating the Warwickshire 10k AA Championship the run is in its 28th year and starts at Warwick Castle and finishes at Kenilworth Castle. Supporting the community not only helps the cadets gain their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award it also instils a sense of community pride.
