Members of the 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron Band, take time to savour their moment of stardom in their dressing room as they prepare for their One Night Only performance. The band of 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron Air Training Corps joined many other local artists at the Bedworth Civic Hall in a ‘For One Night Only' charity fundraising concert in aid of Help for Heroes and the Fusilier Aid Society.

The ‘For One Night Only' concert on Friday 14 th May, was held to honour the memory of two local Nuneaton & Bedworth heroes, Fusilier Louis Carter and Sergeant Simon Valentine who both lost their lives whilst serving as members of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers in Afghanistan.

As well as the 121 Squadron Band the show featured the acclaimed vocal artists, Matt Ford, Rebecca Gage and the harmony group ‘We, Three & I'. The rock band JBR made up of 13-year-olds and the Julie Bromage Dance Academy also featured in the line-up.

The 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron drummers set the mood for the band's performance when the house lights went down to be replaced by ultraviolet lighting which only illuminated the rhythmical movement of their drum sticks, dress ropes and other white uniform items as they performed a flawless routine of drumming and stick drill.

The eerie sight of the rhythmical movement of the drummers sticks under ultraviolet lighting. As the lights went back up to reveal the brass section of the band the large enthusiastic 700 strong concert audience were treated to a variety of wartime favourites, traditional marches and other popular tunes. During the bands performance the unsuspecting audience found themselves participants in the concert as Flt Lt Ian Crewe led the sing along. Not content with exercising the audience's voices he then invited them to put their hands together and clap along with the drummers as they beat out the Sailor's Hornpipe . The challenge was, could they keep up with the drummers as they increased the tempo, unfortunately not.

Charity fundraiser Rosie Iliffe who organised the event said, “We didn't want ‘For One Night Only' to be a sombre occasion, we wanted people to come along and enjoy themselves. I just wanted to thank everybody for making tonight such a huge success. Everything went to plan and the artists did a wonderful job and made me proud, We three and I, JBR, Rebecca Gage, Matt Ford and the 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron band, made it an unforgettable night and we raised a whopping £4000 for the Help for Heroes and Fusilier Aid Society charities.”

She added, “Last, but not least, I would like to say a huge thank you to the audience for coming along and helping to raise funds for such a worthy cause.”
